I met Allure a little over a year ago on Facebook when we started talking about our mutual love for music. As our friendship grew, I realized not only was he a gifted musician, but he had many artistic outlets, and excelled at them all!
I knew the first interview I did with an artist had to be with Allure. I had to share this man and his art with the world! Enjoy!

DJK: Hey friend, thanks for being here with us today! You are a man of many talents, but why don’t we begin with telling everybody a little bit about your latest venture, Blue Chemical Photography…
AK: Blue Chemical is my effort and attempt to show the world my obscured way of seeing life, and how I believe that "ugly" and "beauty" is really one married concept. I think flaws are the most perfect thing.
DJK: What inspired you to venture into photography?
DJK: What inspired you to venture into photography?
AK: What inspired me to take photographs is my love for painting. I would paint for days and days but it's not a quick satisfaction. Photography, for me is a much faster process. Also I love the intimacy between the subject and myself. You are capturing a moment in time that'll never happen again!! That's really powerful when you meditate on that.
DJK: You have such a unique style, what would you call your style, or can you even put a label on it?
AK: It's difficult for me to label it. I know It's tilted, fantasy and whimsical. I have no formal training, so therefore I'm not bound to rules or style. I just aim to tap a familiar place in us all; scary, deep, happy or bewilderment.
AK: Sometimes I find models and sometimes they find me. I've asked strangers to "sit" (pose) and some have seen my work from designers or makeup artists or Facebook and flickr. And some are friends and family.
DJK: Where do you get your ideas for shoots?
AK: I get ideas, concepts and location from different vibes of different models. I try to go extremely out of their comfort zone or some of their styles. It only makes sense to find a place where it really looks like they belong. Either way, I aim to really push people. I love to have someone overcome insecurity or fear. Art is an amazing form of therapy.
AK: I shoot people because we are so vulnerable. We move and bend in such a way. We tell different stories and people see themselves differently than the rest of the world. I love to push people and tilt them to the edge until they trust themselves and then come to trust me. It's more intimate than making love; it's so powerful without touching. You and the subject are so high because you know that you are doing something so special and it feels wickedly good but the best part about it is; it's innocent…
DJK: Anything funny ever happen while you’ve been out shooting?
AK: A funny moment that comes to mind is, a few months back, I did a shoot with 4 young ladies, in my studio. It was a nude shoot, with the models only covered in face mud, over their bodies and my wife was a part of the model crew. In comes our 2 year old son who starts chanting "boobs, boobs, boobs"!! All the ladies turned red and looked at each other, embarrassed. I had to kick him out and it took 20 minutes to make them feel comfortable again.
AK: The strangest place may be in the basement of an old church.
DJK: How has your work evolved over the years?
AK: I believe my work evolves with the more I understand and appreciate the intricate differences of people. To see and feel how what works for you may not work for another being. I'm getting better with color treatments. I also shoot with a bigger eye and bigger heart. Meaning, I see beyond the person now. A tiny stone in the corner becomes just as important as the person I'm shooting. My heart beats to the rhythm of everything that's in the area and around. I didn't know how to or was even aware of needing to achieve that before.
DJK: Are there any current or past artists out there whose style you really admire?
AK: On Flickr, I find many, many people that inspire and challenge my work to be greater. But to name a few, there's Cris Romagosa, Libra Zen, Solarixx, Michel and a host of others. I am inspired by everything around me. From words or poetry to the way someone walks to the sound of a drum.
DJK: What are your dreams for Blue Chemical, where would you like to see yourself down the road a bit?
AK: I really want to travel the world and take photographs of people and places far, far away from here. I want to meet and touch people all over this planet and write a book on all the adventures. I want to risk my life for art!
AK: The advice I would give is: be very, truly passionate and go to the edge of selfishness that you will not let ANYONE take you off the road to what you came here to do. Be on your path before making a life commitment to someone, so that you've made your passion, your world and then, when you find someone to live and share your life with they should have a full scope of what you live to do. Then you will be free to be you and should always remain the soul who determines how far you go with your dreams. Be bold and be brave! Without these kinds of people who walk the earth we'd still believe that the world is flat!
DJK: Well Mr. King it has been an honor to get to know you better, thanks for stopping by and sharing a piece of yourself with the world!
AK: And I would like to say how honored I am to be a part of your gift and in return have the opportunity to share mine with you and the world...
